How to Identify Your Child’s Learning Style?

From birth, children have the urge to discover the world around them. They utilise different mediums at their disposal like touching, hearing, tasting, smelling, or speaking to explore their surroundings. With age, kids start developing a unique learning pattern at home or the best preschool in Gurgaon. There are three types of learning patterns that include auditory learners, visual learners, and kinesthetic learners. Initially, children show a balance of all three ways, but gradually they tend to incline towards a particular pattern.

Parents, teachers and other guardians are most likely to identify these patterns in kids. Discovering specific learning patterns in kids can help parents understand their enabling them to find their child’s learning style and determine which extracurricular activities they would like the most.

But how are you supposed to recognise your kids’ learning styles? Read through the details of different learning styles below to identify the learning patterns of your child:

  1. The Auditory Learners

Auditory learners understand things and learn best by listening to them. Children inclined towards the auditory learning style exhibit their verbal strength and pursue oral instructions better. Kids with an auditory learning pattern benefit from hearing or reciting something out loud while cramming their syllabus or discussing a topic. Some characteristics that determine your kid as an auditory learner are:

  • If he enjoys discussions and talks
  • If he sings along with the songs on TV, radio, etc.
  • If he notices sounds that others may not recognize
  • If he has an aptitude in music, instruments, or vocal ability

If your children follow auditory learning styles, help them study with these tips:

  • Record lessons to help your kid listen to them anytime
  • Ask questions to your child and discuss different ideas
  • Make your kid explain things to a friend for better learning.

2. The Visual Learners

Visual Learners are those who process information as pictures. They are art lovers and tend to observe the world around them. Kids with a visual learning style can recall a vivid image such as a map or graph more than anything spoken or written. Since they love art, they pay special attention to artwork such as illustrations and diagrams in books. Also, such kids are proficient in recognising places they have been to. Go through these characteristics to know if your kid is a visual learner:

  • If he shows an interest in art
  • If he easily understands the maps, graphs, etc.
  • If he likes to watch videos more than reading
  • If he recognises places, faces, and people easily.

If your kid prefers visual learning styles, you can improve their study with:

  • Use colour coding study notes to keep them updated
  • Create maps or diagrams to help them understand concepts
  • Show them documentaries or instructional videos to describe things.

3. The Kinesthetic Learners

Kinesthetic learners are likely to manifest their activities through physical movements. Such kids generally learn best by touching or doing things themselves at home or in pre-nursery schools in Gurgaon. Children with this learning pattern are habitual to using a lot of gestures, counting on their fingers or clapping during happy moments and more. These kids show impeccable hand-eye coordination and are naturally wonderful at games like building blocks, joining puzzles, etc., and physical activities like dancing, playing, cycling, and more. Your child is a kinesthetic learner if he owns these characteristics:

  • If he shows great hand-eye coordination
  • If he uses gestures frequently while speaking
  • If he finds it uneasy to sit while learning something.
  • If he enjoys drawing, writing or handwriting exercises
  • If he is excellent in sports, dance, or any physical activity.

If your kid is a kinesthetic learner, you can help improve their study with these tips:

  • Teach content to him by acting or making a skit
  • Make them listen to the content of the syllabus while walking
  • Try to use props to show the solutions to academic problems

Take Away

Every child has unique abilities and possesses different learning styles. Identifying kids’ learning patterns enables parents to help them in their studies by using activities that match their characteristics. When parents or teachers in the best pre-nursery schools in Gurgaon find kids’ learning styles early, they can push them to particular fields like sports, music, or writing based on their skills. Therefore, check your child’s actions and exercises and match them with the listed characteristics to provide them assistance in the right manner.
